Richard Mwangi is a highly respected consultant audiologist with over 20 years of dedicated experience in audiology and hearing healthcare. He is a registered and licensed audiologist practicing in Kenya, underscoring his commitment to upholding the highest standards of clinical practice within the region.

He holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Audiology and Hearing Therapy from the prestigious International University of Isabel I de Castilla in Spain. In pursuit of continued professional growth, Richard has also completed an Advanced Audiology Postgraduate Diploma from Royal Kentalis in the Netherlands and holds a Certificate in International Audiovestibular Rehabilitation from the American Institute of Balance (USA).

Richard began his career in the pharmaceutical industry but made a pivotal shift into audiology upon recognizing the critical shortage of hearing healthcare services in Kenya. Motivated by a deep sense of purpose, he established and now leads a growing network of hearing healthcare centers in Nairobi, along with multiple satellite clinics across the country—making him a leading force in expanding access to specialized hearing care in Kenya.

He is a contributing correspondent to two international peer-reviewed journals: the American Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and the Global Journal of Otolaryngology (GJO). He has authored several articles focusing on advances, accessibility, and innovations in hearing healthcare.

Richard holds several esteemed professional accreditations:

  • Accredited by the South African Council for Audiologists (ACRED No. STA 007/36/05/2012).
  • Certified and registered in Spain (Reg. No. FV: 201915653).
  • Fellow of the British Academy of Audiology (F-BAA).

In 2015, Richard was recognized as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Influential Men in Kenya, a reflection of his leadership and impact in the field. That same year, he served as a facilitator and clinical trainer for Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing at Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar, supporting the hospital’s launch of a newborn hearing screening unit.

His passion for community service is evident in his ongoing involvement in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These include:

  • Annual donation of hearing aids to underserved populations during World Hearing Day.
  • Sponsorship of deaf cyclists and community film projects focused on hearing loss awareness.
  • Coordination of nationwide hearing screening camps Kisumu, Isiolo, Kiambu, Muranga, Nyeri, Nairobi, Kajiando, Makueni and many other counties.
  • Sponsorship and participation in hearing-focused community health education.

Richard is also actively involved in academic training, having served as part of a team of lecturers in audiology and hearing therapy.

In recognition of his long-standing humanitarian contributions, he was recently honored with a Humanitarian Award for his efforts in serving hearing-impaired individuals across Kenya.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Richard is a devoted family man, married with four children. He enjoys sightseeing, is a passionate car enthusiast, an avid reader, practices martial arts and occasional golfing in his free time.
